  1. Sadly I don’t have HBO, I have to wait for it online. I’m hoping I wont rant through this season like I did the last. I have to completely separate TB from SVM so that I can enjoy it. Otherwise I’m just bitching about how AB ruined it.

    1. Aww, that sucks! I don’t read the SVM books so it helps me to only focus on the show. I plan to read them next year AFTER the last book has been released (and I know whether or not she ends up with Eric, lol).

      1. Get on that! lol. I can’t believe you haven’t read them.

I understand wanting to wait until the last one is out, and I admit you will likely feel that it’s incomplete until the last one is here, but you should do it anyways. Read up to book 9 or 10 and stop. I feel like the last three are going to need to be together to feel more complete (or at least I’m assuming the last one will complete them or it will be a pretty crappy last book).

I’m just a little stunned here. you’ll have to give me some time to adjust to the fact that you, of all people, haven’t read these. It makes me wonder what else you haven’t read… 😉

Do you have a list of awesome? we may need to make one if not and SVM would definately be high on that list.

        1. LOL!! Believe me, you’re not the first to be surprised. I’ve just been debating for so long about it. I KNOW it’s one of the top series out there, but knowing that it will be complete soon makes it really hard to want to emotionally invest (cuz I totally do) only to be let down in the end.

But if I am tempted I do plan to use your approach :P.

I don’t have a list of awesome but I do have a list or books I’ve read and plan to read on Goodreads.

I’ve only TRULY started to get into this stuff ever since I got a kindle. Before that I wasn’t nearly as much of a reader. I went from reading 3 books per year to 86 in 2011 and now I’m going for 100 in 2012 (up to about 61 so far, mostly novels but a few shorts and novellas).

          1. Also, I LOVE goodreads! I’ve never found so many books to my liking before I found that site.

  2. As far as I know there is still only to be one more, and Erika you are right to hold out. Speaking as an avid fan of the books, if you’ve made it this far, go for it. I say enjoy the show for what it is, and the read like you planned. Save yourself the year long simmer over the last book. I also agree w/ SLC, you should make a page of just the good reviews you’ve given. That would be cool!

    1. @SLC: I sort of have a little list towards the bottom on my right panel. But maybe a whole page is in order! And I love Goodreads too! It’s heaven for keeping everything organized.

@Kat: I just might, though I don’t always have reviews for my favorites. And they aren’t all on here. I started the blog a bit after I started reviewing them. But I guess if you guys don’t mind an occasional throw back review to get me up to speed that’d be cool.

  3. I got the audiobooks last year. I haven’t read the latest one, but I gave it a go after someone told me it was really different. It was a bit odd because she was right and I actually prefer the show’s version, especially since my favorite character in the show never made it past book 1. Plus even if you read the books it doesn’t mean you know what’s going to happen on tv.

And I’m with you on waiting. It’s always great to move through a series without the interruption of a lengthy release date. I even have a hard time waiting week to week for a show. I was seriously thinking about cleaning out my DVR and just recording the whole season of Game of Thrones because it was killing me to have to wait. Fortunately after last night’s True Blood premier it’s looking like HBO is on a must see tv role this summer and I might still have to clear out my DVR and have a TB marathon after the finale.

    1. There’s no way I could watch GoT in bulk. I have to know week after week, but since the books are almost finished for Sookie, it’s easier to wait. Once I start the books though I’m curious myself if I will like the show or the books more. I know about Lafayette ~_^. He’s one of my faves, along with Pam.

      1. That makes me apprehensive about getting into the GoT series since the author is notorious for long grace periods between books. But I really want to know whats next so I did get the first audiobook. I’m having a hard time getting into it since it’s just like the show and I don’t really like the narrator.

I would like to send the casting director over at HBO a present for their awesome job. Not having Jon and Rob Stark each week isn’t so bad with Jason, Alcide, and Eric. I am interested in whether or not they include Quinn this season and who would play him.

  4. After reading the last book and the Sookie Stackhouse companion book fans get a teaser about who she might end up in the end. My mouth is shut. I agree…. Wait or read up to 10 or 11. Book 12 is where everything changes! Oh and read the novellas too. They are good also. I didn’t wait of course, but maybe you have a stronger will then me??? Good Luck!

  5. I started reading the books when they first came out in the 90’s so when the TV show came out a few years ago I had to re-read them in order to refresh my memory!

I love both the books and the novels but stopped reading the books at around book 8 because I didn’t want to get too far ahead of the TV show. Also, did you read that Charlaine felt that the show had impacted her ability to write the books? So in a way it might be good that the next one will be the last one. She’s a great writer and Alan Ball has done a fantastic job taking her words to the screen.

And the actors, yum! Even if you’re not a fan of the show you can’t deny that the male cast is gorgeous! Okay, enough swooning for now.

    1. That’s like me and The Vampire Diaries, though I didn’t bother to reread, lol. I hear the tv show and books deviate. You just have to be in the right mindset for it. I also heard that from Harris. I think she’s making it plenty long enough. Some series just don’t know when to stop and that annoys me sometimes.

I don’t think anybody denies some of the mere perfection we see for the male cast members (though there aren’t a lot of Bill fans).
